Wish You Could Banish Those Dark Circles Under Your Eyes
How many times have you heard someone tell you that if you want to get rid of the dark circles under your eyes, you’ve got to get more sleep? That’s the #1 solution I’m given and you know what? Even when I get plenty of rest I still wake up looking like I’ve gone a few rounds with a heavyweight champ. So what really works to get rid of dark circles?
Unfortunately, nothing is ever going to be a permanent solution for dark circles. For many, this is a hereditary problem and no amount of money or products will ever change your genetic makeup. Even if dark circles don’t run in your family, the truth is the skin in this area is extremely transparent. It lacks the layer of fat beneath it that other facial areas have. Because the skin’s so thin, the blood vessels that lie just below are very visible and that’s really the culprit. And as you get older it’s just going to get worse.
Avoiding certain things will help decrease the visibility of your dark circles. Avoid crying because this inflames those blood vessels. Avoid rubbing under your eyes. Doing so can damage this sensitive area. Avoid dehydration as this will magnify dark circles. Allergies too will inflame those blood vessels so either get help for your allergies and/or avoid coming into contact with whatever triggers them. And, finally, avoid late nights and poor eating habits.
Can anything help? While dark circles might not ever disappear, they can be concealed with makeup that’s a shade darker (not lighter!) than your skin tone. Apply the concealer in the area and all around your eyes for a balanced look and pat it in; don’t rub! Cucumber slices, moistened tea bags and ample rest will help reduce swelling in the blood vessels too. Far more expensive options are available but do your research first so you know what you’re getting.
